Mr. Curnutte received a Bachelor of Accountancy degree in 1976 and Juris Doctor degree in 1979 from the University of Oklahoma.
Mr. Curnutte is a long-time member of the Craig County, Oklahoma and American Bar Associations. Through the years he served on various committees within the Oklahoma Bar Association, including the Clients’ Security Fund Committee and Probate Code Committee. More recently he served as an associate editor of the Oklahoma Bar Journal. Additionally, he has written seminar materials and served as a speaker and panelist on trust and estate topics for the Oklahoma Bar Association and other groups.
Mr. Curnutte became a Fellow of the American College of Trust and Estate Counsel in 1995, a Charter Benefactor Fellow of the Oklahoma Bar Foundation in 2004, and Fellow of the American Bar Foundation in 2006. He was President of the Oklahoma Bar Foundation in 2007, and served on its Board of Directors from 2000 to 2008. Beginning in 2006, Mr. Curnutte has been listed in Oklahoma Super Lawyers® in the specialty area of Estate Planning & Probate. Additionally, he has been listed for many years in The Best Lawyers in America® in the practice areas of Litigation – Trusts and Estates, and Trusts and Estates. He was selected by Best Lawyers as Tulsa’s “Trusts and Estates Lawyer of the Year” for 2014, and “Litigation – Trust and Estates Lawyer of the Year” for 2013 and 2015, honors only given to a single lawyer in each practice area in the community. Mr. Curnutte enjoys the highest rating of AV® Preeminent in the Martindale-Hubbell lawyer rating service.
Mr. Curnutte has been a member of the Vinita Rotary Club for over 30 years. He served as Club President in 1988-1989, and is a Paul Harris Fellow. Mr. Curnutte also served nearly 10 years as a Board member and Treasurer of the local chapter of the American Red Cross.
Mr. Curnutte began his career in Tulsa, working first in public accounting before entering private practice. He returned to his hometown of Vinita and joined the law firm in 1984. Mr. Curnutte has experience in a wide variety of areas, but his practice is primarily focused in the areas of estate planning, trust and estate administration, real estate, business formation and planning, and tax law.
Mr. Curnutte was admitted to the State Bar of Oklahoma in 1979. He is also admitted to practice in the United States District Court for the Northern, Western and Eastern Districts of Oklahoma, the United States Tax Court, the U.S. Court of Federal Claims, the United States Court of Appeals for the Tenth Circuit, and the United States Supreme Court.
